CONFERENCE SESSIONS:
PREPARED25 (PREparing PHEM Applicants for Real-world challenges, Elite performance and Dynamic careers) is dedicated to empowering aspiring doctors and medical students to embark on successful careers in prehospital medicine. This one-day event is designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge, skills and connections to thrive in this demanding yet fulfilling field.
Through a diverse team of experienced doctors, paramedics, nurses and pilots from various air ambulance services, PREPARED25 offers a series of informative talks and discussion sessions. After each session there will be an open Q&A for the audience to ask questions on all aspects of PHEM - the realities of the job to application tips and tricks. The day is structured around three core themes:
BUILD: This session provides an in-depth exploration of strategies for developing a robust foundation in Prehospital Emergency Medicine (PHEM) skills. It will feature presentations on various fellowships that directly align with the core PHEM skillset, as well as an insight into academic qualifications that provide a strong grounding in PHEM. Delivered by a panel of experienced prehospital and retrieval consultants.
ROADMAP: How does one transition from core training to a career in PHEM? This session delves into the various pathways to becoming a prehospital specialist. It will feature presentations from doctors who have achieved the top ranking in national PHEM training applications and also from established PHEM consultants who have forged their own unique career trajectories. It may also touch upon the realities of your first PHEM post - with insight into the common feelings and reactions to working prehospitally for the first time. From the application process to the realities of the job, you will gain valuable insights into the roadmap to success.
EMERGE: How do you emerge from the crowd as an outstanding PHEM candidate? As the demand for PHEM training positions increases, this session provides crucial insights from key members of the prehospital critical care team on how to stand head and shoulders above the rest. The session will feature perspectives from HEMS pilots, critical care paramedics, and - perhaps most importantly - from the patients' perspective through Frank Chege, Lead Patient Liaison Nurse at London HEMS.
